Inspired by Victoria on PBS

Queen Victoria, what a lady, what a Queen! Victoria on PBS has become my favorite TV series, and Sunday's can never seem to roll around quick enough. It is the time of her reign 1837 to 1901 that is called the Victorian era, in which all of you know I am quite fond of. And as you know I enjoy putting together vignettes, so this week I have created one in honor of the Queen herself.

I used a candle lamp with a beaded shade for a little height and color

and a red velvet placemat and blue ribbon sash to match the Queen's royal clothing on the piece of scrap art. That piece is depicting the 1897 Diamond Jubilee in celebration of Victoria's 60 year reign, as does the enamelware tumbler and the bust inside the egg.

I drew my inspiration from the scrap art piece that I placed on a pair of white gloves. The scrap art reads at the bottom...
"Her Majesty, the Queen of England and Empress of India."

And, from this piece I carried out more fanciness with some jewels and pearls, and a lace hanky spilling out of the Jubilee tumbler...

and then there's the coin, dated 1889. Remember the scene of the coin in the TV show, well here it is! :)

And for the crown, I used one my daughter had from pageants, and placed it around the bust glass dome. The bust was one I bought for my doll house but was too large for that. I happened to have this "royal looking" faberge inspired egg, and the small dome, and they all worked together perfectly!

The book is by Cecil Woodham-Smith with a copyright of 1972, and I must admit I have never read it!! But that will change real quick, I will be reading it real soon! I bought it because of the beautiful cover, I'm judging a book by it's cover again!

And look at this silhouette, opposite the title page...

and we can't forget the beloved Prince...

I have to say that the Prince Albert on the PBS series is much better looking then the real one. In my opinion, he is quite the "hottie", don't you think? He actually reminds me of the late Prince Nelson, you knowthe Prince who sang Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette... Their clothes were even the same style! Who knows maybe Prince Albert was his inspiration.

Anyway, back to Queen Victoria...
Besides the scrap art piece, I have this McLaughlin's Coffee trade card of The Diamond Jubilee...

and this card with a "royal" looking horse on it...

and a calling card with this little Spaniel on it. The Spaniels became a popular ephemera subject back in the 1800's because of Queen Victoria's sweet little pooch, Dash.

Well that is all I have for you today, I must go get ready for Church now. And then get everything done that needs to be done this afternoon so I'll be ready to "cozy up" in my favorite chair this evening and escape to another era as I watch another episode of Victoria! Can't wait!

Two of my blogger friends and I went to a Tea Room yesterday in a late Victorian era home, click here if you would like to get a glimpse of the fun we had.

Have a blessed week and thanks so much for visiting. I would love to hear from you if you enjoyed my post.

President's Day and a Birthday!

Another holiday for creating a little vignette on the parlor table! A little red, white and blue for President's Day.

I am only focusing on President Washington and President Lincoln because I have things for them. Starting with the double silhouette of the two, a trio of flags in a small antique hand painted art glass vase, and a pair of vintage drums set the stage...

And then there are the postcards, you know I have to drag those out! :)
I even had a calling card with President Cleveland on it, so I threw him in there too.

threw in a miniature dollhouse sized "Lincoln Logs" cabin...

and then there are the antique books...

Over on the Library table I have a few stereoviews for the stereoscope for you to see...

President Lincoln and, "the newly decorated blue room in the white house".

And now for the birthday!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY on Monday to BERNIDEEN over at

A Pink Mantel

I wanted to share my pink mantel with you this week opposed to next week.

Pink lights that is, not pink paint! I got these pink lights at a sale a while back just for this reason, and when I drug out my Valentine's box there they were! I had forgotten about them!

Since I really like the warm glow of the clear lights at Christmas time, I thought I might like the warm glow of pink lights at Valentine's time!

I hung my pink quilted hearts across the mirror to see if I would like the look and by adding more pink I was inspired to add even more pink with my pair of antique pink bristol glass vases. And it was good!
(through the mirror is the reflection of my ceiling with cherubs painted on it)

Over on my pier mirror I hung my whimsical looking heart feather wreath...

and I thought it was good too! :) See the reflection of the pink lights to the right of the wreath? What fun!

Thanks so much for visiting and here's wishing you and yours a a happy week before Valentine's Day!

Romantic Valentine Vignettes

Here I am again with more "romantic " vignettes using antique items from my different collections.

Lately a favorite spot for staging a vignette is on the marble top parlor table in the back of the living room.

A favorite is the gold beaded candle lamp that fits in just about anywhere for any occasion, just simply romantic.

This is a vignette using antique items that would be on a Victorian lady's writing desk. A sweet letter written to sister in 1901, using a mother of pearl handled pen, with inkwell to the left.

to the right of the letter is a small 1884 autograph album with cute scrap art throughout the book.

Above that is an antique "Forget Me Not" scripture reading book, and a "How Do I Love Thee?" book with romantic poems and love songs, that hubby gifted me years ago...

and this sweet Nicole Sayre heart box that I got at a sale a while back. A cloth lace trimmed heart and an antique Valentine...

and more antique Valentine's.

Over on another parlor table is a continuation from the other table.

A Valentine gift bag and a homemade mirrored Valentine made by me for hubby several year's ago. Another cloth heart and a 1901 ruby flash paper weight.

A chocolate heart box, and a stack of antique books...

with pretty red covers...

Who doesn't love a beautiful book cover? I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I do! Especially this one!

And the beautiful illustrations that go along with it.

Thank you so much for your visit, wishing you a romantic week leading up to St. Valentine's Day!

I want to thank Jill over at LET'S TALK VINTAGE for featuring my Victorian Shell Art collection.
