Update on the Master Bath!

After 10 years of wanting the big mirror and hollywood light strip taken out of the master bathroom, I can now say it is done!! Yay hubby!!

I had in mind a pair of antique fancy oval gilt frames to replace the big ugly plain mirror but soon found out that would not be an easy task so decided to settle on any large matching oval frames that would "do" until I find what I really want.

I bought the mirrors at Hobby Lobby and the light fixtures from Menard's.

The fixtures are called polished copper but look black to me. I prefer brass or polished brass fixtures but they are not so easy to find these days so I settled with these. I liked the scroll shape and the color seemed to go with the frames, which are a copper and brown leaf with black trim.

The frames were $89.99 each at Hobby Lobby, which I thought were way too high so I waited until they were half price. They both had some scrapes and little spots of missing leaf so I ended up getting them both for 80% off!! That made them $19 each!! With a bottle of Metallic "Rich Expresso" acrylic paint I covered up the spots and scrapes!

In a small room it is so hard to get a picture of the room as a whole, so here is a shot from the doorway going in to the bedroom.

Here is what it looked like before. Needless to say, I am very happy with its new look. :)

As for the decorating, I kept this wall the same but carried out the cherub and lace theme throughout the room. I say cherub, but I have putti and fairies as well.

Putti is plural of putto and is described as a figure in a work of art depicted as a child, usually nude and sometimes winged
Cherub is a type of angel that is usually shown in art as a beautiful young child with small wings and a round face and body.
And either of the above are called fairies when they have insect or butterfly wings.

So with that information, over on the corner wall shelf is this cherub...

And these cherub hanging up over here...

and to add more I found this wonderful vintage plaster plaque at an antiques mall last week,

with its neat 3-D sweetie pie putti (I say they are sweetie pie, but if you look closely it doesn't look like they are doing sweetie pie things, so I came to the conclusion that they were fighting over the blanket, or loin cloth, whatever you want to call it, and the putti on the far left is escaping with it while the others are still fighting!)

Along with this framed piece of Bobbin lace, made in Brussels,

I knew they would be the perfect pair on this wall...

Holding my Q-Tips is this vintage ceramic, Made in Japan, little holder. And what is it everyone? A Fairy, right? Because it has butterfly wings. Wow, what a to do!

A cherub soap dish with cherub soaps

and a putto (only 1) Meissen type bottle of some sort that I use as a hatpin holder...

all on this tray.

Lace curtains help to soften and add romance and charm to the space. Sorry for the dark photo though.

And that is it for my cherub, putti and fairy bathroom! And lace. I hope you learned something new today! (winks) Thank you so much for visiting and have a wonderful week!

  2. Love the cherub theme Gina! Looks like a lovely redo. Today we are still working....still painting, cleaning the oven (my eyes are burning right now) and we met with the realtor yesterday. At least the clock is ticking down.

  5. I did learn something new! I knew nothing of putti or putto and I just love the cherub/fairy world. What a difference changing that mirror and light fixture makes.. It looks great! I love a good bargain and you definitely got on on the mirrors.

  6. Ooo Gina,
Your bathroom came out so lovely!! (I had to settle for the burnt blackish fixtures when we remodeled too! I wonder why they stopped producing the pretty brass? When we moved in to our historical home the one modernized room was the upstairs bathroom with those same row of "movie star" lights above that same mirror that you had, and guess what we replaced with? Yep an oval mirror and very similar lights above!!! :-) And not only that but I have decorated with cherubs too!! We still have more to finish
but you and I share the same taste in the wanna~be department!! ;-)
I love the colors you chose and all your pretty touches!! You have made a lovely Victorian space!!
    Many blessings and warmth, Linnie

  10. Love the changes to your bathroom. You did so well on finding the mirrors and getting such a good deal on them. I think the lights go well with the mirrors and other accessories you have in your bath. We are days away from moving into our new home and yes, the bath has all those same light fixtures as your old one. I will be searching for new ones as soon as possible. Thanks for all your inspiration! And for the lesson on Cherubs, and putti and putto.
