My dear blogger friends, you will be shocked at what I am about to tell you, but I must. :)
After 5 Seasons of NOT watching Downton Abbey, I finally watched the 1st episode of the 6th season Sunday night!! I tried watching it before now, but just couldn't get into it. Well let me tell you, now I am hooked! So I went to the Public Library and checked out all 5 seasons and have spent a lot of my last 3 days watching it! I am off work until the end of January so I have a LOT of time to catch up.
While sitting inside watching these episodes, I got a fire going in the fireplace and couldn't help but long for some good old snow! Here in Missouri we have had but only one snow and that was in November and not a big one at that!
So I took a little break from Downton Abbey and quickly threw together this fireside snow post.
Many of you have such wonderful snowmen and snowflake decorations that inspire me, but I do not have much. So Frosty's hat and some sparkly ball ornaments that resemble snowballs will have to do.
Bellows are not really snow related but you know me and my ephemera so out of the Victorian Scrapbook came these two paper bellows. The larger one is a store advertisement. I thought it interesting that they both had a light blue bow on them.
In front of the warm fire is a great place for a good book or two.
This little"vest pocket book" was published in 1875 but copyright date is 1865.
It has charming illustrations, and with such charming illustrations as that, one must have a cup of tea
on the paper mache tilt top tea table for a little more comfort.
And now to the foyer where Frosty's hat and the snowballs will go.
I'll leave my scarf, gloves and earmuffs there so I can be ready for a snow, hopefully very soon.
And with that I must go watch more Downton Abbey, her Ladyship is expecting me. Thanks so much for joining me today and have a wonderful week!

That is so cute Gina - longing for snow and I must tell you that yes, I will miss the snow in Colorado - especially at Christmas. However, I will just have to get over it won't I. I can assure you I won't miss it in March and April and yes - even into May!!! Your photos of your lovely fireplace are so warming and friendly! Love all the special touches too!
ReplyDeleteYour lovely posts always make me smile! Thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you, I am so glad I can make you smile. You made me smile by telling me you smile! :)
DeleteLove your Frosty hat Gina. Everything looks so warm and welcoming. Have a wonderful New Year. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have finally joined the crowd -- when it comes to Downton Abbey, that is! I just find it so fascinating and the costumes are fabulous. Hope to visit Highclere Castle one day and see it in person.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I have a feeling I could get hooked on watching it, too! Love those bellows, I've never seen one before.... Thanks so much for visiting today for Let's Talk Vintage!
ReplyDeleteWish I could have watched all the series of Downton Abby with you. Also sit in front of your charming fireplace. I love Downton Abby and I am mourning the ending alread.
ReplyDeleteI love the show where they all traveled someplace and the butlers were packing their vintage Louis Vuitton luggage in back of one of the cars. I about did a flip watching and wanting that Louis Vuitton luggage hat boxes and all. That is what i'm obsessed over I admit it.
Hoping to see you soon your Ladyship, from Lady Janice
It is snowing now in Colorado Springs - would send you some but just a wet box would arrive!
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you are getting caught up with Downton. I'll be sad to have this show done after season. It's been one of my guilty pleasures and I've actually gotten my husband hooked!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't as late to the party as you, but I didn't begin watching Downton Abbey until the 4th season. I still need to buy my pass to season 6.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your little vest pocket book. The old illustrations are wonderful.
And, thanks for Sharing Your Cup!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to hosting the party and I keep forgetting that in my comments!
I just adore Downton and so sad this is the last season! I may have to watch it all over again! Your fireside is so perfectly elegant and cozy and Frosty's hat is adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh I love your snowball and cozy winter vignettes. Oh so cozy and perfect to enjoy the winter season.
ReplyDeleteHope your new year if off to a great start!
I am praying for snow. There were maybe 7 flakes that came down two days ago. I don't think we will have any though. If you get any, post pictures as I do love seeing the white stuff.
ReplyDeleteYour fireplace in very inviting and with a good book is the perfect place to be. I am reading a very old book , well just started, called "The Rosary".
Glad you got to catch up on Downton. I am gonna really miss the show after this last season. I am going to miss hearing English spoken correctly. No slang, especially "you guys" what is with that?
Happy Friday and hope you get snow
Betsy
After reading my post, maybe I should brush up on my English too. betsy
DeleteI like Downton as well, more the downstairs than the up, with all the domestic details of daily life.

ReplyDeleteI meant to say - Happy Belated Birthday to your daughter!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are finally hooked! I can't imagine anything more fun than a Downton marathon with a nice, warm fire in the fireplace!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
Blessings,
Cindy
Well, I don't like snow so I cannot identify with you at all. I didn't realize that Missouri didn't get snow. You know I hadn't watched DA either until the end of the fifth season. Then Hubby and I spent several weeks watching all five seasons on DVD and now we're hooked too. Like you, I couldn't seem to get into it either but if one gives it a chance, you really love it. There is so much to love about it and it's a pity this is the last season for it. Your snowball theme is very cute! Thanks for sharing, Gina.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
I did the same thing two seasons ago! My girlfriends had been bugging me to watch Downton and I wanted no part of it. I thought it would be like Pride and Prejudice, which I still don't want any part of. So I borrowed all the season I had to catch up on and watched them all straight through. Last season I watched it from the beginning and now that I am into it, it's ending!! So sad. P.S. I am not liking Mary so far this season :-(
ReplyDeleteLove your snowball vignette! We are waiting for snow here in the northeast. We are way behind in our snowfall!
ReplyDeleteThe cold weather is perfect for hibernating and binge watching on Downton Abbey! I jumped on the Downton Abbey bandwagon during its second season. I will be forever grateful to my office manager for introducing me to the show--she said all the tea scenes made her think of me. Hee! Enjoy catching up on the episodes!
ReplyDeleteI hope this brings you snow! Love the top hat vignette. Tea and Downton Abbey -- can't be beat!!! Happy Tea Day!
ReplyDeleteGina, love that top and hat AND that hall stand... what a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteWe are having our first measurable snow as I type - I am not sure I am ready for it - BUT it sure is pretty. Love your vignette!
ReplyDeleteLove the Victorian paper.
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle about your comments on Downton Abbey. I can't believe you haven't been a follower. I bet you are having fun catching up! I will miss the series, but I have to admit, I think this series is a bit slow. Hope you get some snow.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to watch Downton Abbey twice and I just can't get into it either. I really should get through a few so I can get into it just for the tea alone! We had snow. I will give it to you! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
ReplyDeleteYour snowball's are beautiful especially with the fire glistening off them, simple yet elegant.
ReplyDeleteGina, I will be featuring your post at No Place Like Home on Monday. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
ReplyDeleteI know Downton becomes addictive.
I had to play catchup as well when I started watching.
