Hauntingly Romantic!

I always feel like I show the same old Halloween decorations in the same old places each year so this year I'm changing things up a bit and creating some "Hauntingly Romantic" vignettes using things that you have not seen before on my Halloween posts. I'm bringing random things together from throughout the house to accomplish this.

My inspiration piece is one of my latest finds that I bought from Richard at My Old Historic House. It is an 1860's paper mache tilt top tea table. I really didn't have any where to put it so I put it here in the "parlor end" of my living room.

I thought it would fun to work it in for this Hallowe'en post since it is black. It has shell inlay...

and three very lovely feet.

For the staging of this Hauntingly Romantic post I decided to move it to the dining room with my lacy window panels as the back drop.
Since it is a tea table I graced its top with my latest antique hand painted teapot, cream and sugar.

So romantic looking with its pinks and gold...

But not very spooky, so that's where the Jack-o-Lantern comes into play...

and a little ghost to add a little "haunt" to the vignette...

What's a ghost without a house to haunt right? Maybe this one, with the reflection of my chandy in the upper left hand corner.

Or this one maybe...

Surely one of these Second Empire Style houses would be good to haunt...

they do look quite spooky in the light of a Jack-o-Lantern...

in the light of a few Jack-o-Lanterns...

or in the light of LOTS of Jack-o-Lanterns, and some scary looking black birds too!

This crow isn't scaring anyone and neither is that useless scarecrow! The crow has his mind set on pumpkins and sunflower seeds! (The oil painting is also a recent find for me, for $5)

And then there is the bird dome...

not just any bird dome, but a special bird dome

and upon a closer look you'll see what I mean. Some of the birds still have their feathers but not this poor guy! He has a case of very bad taxidermy.

He's not very scary, nor is he very romantic, he's just a poor skeleton bird living in a dome waiting for that one time of the year when he can fit in with the Jack-o-Lanterns and the ghosts.
Poor little skeleton bird!

Thank you so much for your visit and have a wonderful week! I hope it's "hauntingly romantic"!

Vignettes of Autumn

Hello everyone! As usual I have been too busy to blog but the other day I did get on and was so inspired by all of your beautiful Fall posts that I decided I must get one going. I wanted to show you some of my latest finds so decided to combine it with this Autumn post.

My Great Auntie, who is 90, had an auction and before the day I was able to pick out a few things. I picked this kerosene lamp because I liked the base, I think it is a milk glass base. The pink, orange, purple and green painted on it are Autumn colors  so I decided to use it as the inspiration piece for this post.

I brought out my grandmother's hand stitched quilt of brown and pink, and bought a mum and some pumpkins for the staging.

For this vignette I added a hand embroidered tablecloth, an enameled amber glass tumbler, an amber pressed glass Japanese fan shaped dish for the maple cookies, a tussie mussie,

this  hand colored brown transferware tile that is a recent find

and this velvet pillow with thistle blooms to match the other purples in this Autumn post. This piece used to be a piano scarf but I cut it down to slip over a pillow.

And now for my tea loving friends, I brought out a cuppa tea for us, using my Johnson Bros. Staffordshire Bouquet pattern. On the chair, covered with the quilt, a lace window panel and a green velvet scarf, is another latest find...

a silver plated water tipper!

Isn't it a beauty with its matching water goblet?! The posy was made by my daughter in her floral design class at school, I thought it would be sweet to use for this post.

Well that is it for now, but before you go please have some tea and a cookie. Thanks so much for visiting and have a blessed Autumn week.

Thank you Paula and Patti, over at What's It Wednesday, for featuring my antique Victorian jewelry post a few weeks ago.
