Mother's Day Vignettes on the Front Porch

Hello everyone, with Mother's Day right around the corner I decided to play around with some vignettes using some of my latest estate sale finds. I work for an estate sale company and have been bringing home way too many things!

As you know I like to photograph vignettes on my front porch, because the lighting is so good  out here so let me set the stage for the first vignette...

On the silver tray...

are a few of my latest finds, including a Meissen style perfume bottle with no lid, an orphaned tea saucer and the little oval picture frame. And yes the chocolates are real, every one needs some chocolate every now and then right?

We'll stay with the tray for a while and I'll show you more of my latest finds

including these two wonderful shaving mugs

the silver clothes brush with the sweet cherubs on it, look closely! And the darling little fairing trinket box that I showed you in my bathroom cabinet post but it was kind of hard to see in there so I brought it out here on the porch for a better look. See the lady kissing the handsome guy statue? Maybe she thinks her kiss is magic and he'll come to life or something. Or he could have been alive and had a magic spell cast on him and now he is a statue, kind of like Beauty and the Beast I guess. :)

Okay over here on the iron bench are a stack of books,

the top two are some of my latest finds, and the top one makes me very very happy because do you see the date on the spine?! It is from 1814! So that makes this the oldest piece of anything that I have in my house! It is volume II of Letters of Lord Nelson, and very interesting I might add. The pinch nose spectacles on the chain are also a recent find.

The other book, Life of Boone is dated 1875.

This is the 1812 book up close.

And then here are these other two books. Since I have been working the sales I have been getting way, way, too many advertising cards and postcards. So here is where I house those.

Here is a look at the inside...

and another look at another page and the postcard album opened up for you to see. The pages are new but the outside binding is old.

As you well know I get a lot of enjoyment out of these cards and show them quite often in my posts, so I cannot let this opportunity pass me by to pull out a few and share with you a Mother's Day thought.

It is because of children that we are mothers,

and it is because of mothers that we are children.

Let us thank our mothers, and God, for giving us life.

Here is an old Victorian motto for you
What is a Home without a Mother?

Have a wonderful Mother's Day!

  10. These are such beautiful, heirloom items you have collected. I especially like your collection of antique cards. I have a couple from early 1900's from France that my friend translated for me (on my blog). It's as though they have a new life as I cherish them so much. Wishing you the very best :)
