Romantic Vignettes

Hello everyone! Last week I showed you some "Winter Blues" vignettes using blue items that I gathered together from around the house so this week I am still in the vignette mood and have gathered together some "romantic" items that I thought would make some pretty Valentine vignettes.
Here is what I came up with...

For this vignette I used 2 antique velvet frames with lovely ladies of whom I'm sure were true romantics in their day, a pair of crocheted ladies gloves, a souvenir perfume chest with two bottles, an oval scrapbook piece, and 3 circa 1900 hand written letters.

A closer look at the perfume chest, it is not in the best of shape but I liked it anyway. It and the bottles are embellished with brass trimmings and the chest is lined with silk. One of the bottles is missing its picture on the lid so I'm glad at least one of them still has it, not sure where this souvenir originated from but it looks like a beach scene to me.

For this vignette in my bedroom on the parlor table,

I used a framed antique paper fan, my Old Paris Porcelain dresser tray and some vintage jewelry.

A closer look so you can see the pretty little birdie on its nest at the top of the dresser piece, this is a very old piece, dating back probably to the 1860's or so, so it does have some broken off curly que pieces. If you want to see the post of the Civil War Era house where I bought this piece at auction click here.

Upon an even closer look, you'll see a few antique brooches, a monogrammed locket, photo pins, a tiny heart locket and a lavender filled heart sachet.

For this vignette I wanted to focus mostly on vintage lace pieces with hand embroidered and needlepoint roses. I added the porcelain shoe because it too had a rose.

I spent some time trying to arrange the above lace pieces just so for this photo and then when done I just draped the pieces I was using for these vignettes over the back of the rocker recliner and look how pretty it looks and I didn't even try to make it look pretty! Hmmmm..

For this vignette I used an antique card, a demitasse cup?, a candle in a cradled looking zipper glass dish, maybe for celery, the little gold frame is actually a picture I hang in my dollhouse but it is the insert of a dacquerotype, minus the case, and then there's the dainty pink hand tatted handkerchief that I like so well.

Just a closer look...

More vintage lace and two 1907 Valentine postcards...

AND two more postcards, my great, great grandmother in the red velvet frame, 2 calling cards and a ruby flash paper weight, dated 1906 with a guys name engraved on it...

and a closer view. I just recently got the cupid postcard at a sale that I worked, I thought it was so adorable! I like the red ribbon trim on the calling card, I have lots of calling cards but this is the only one with ribbon weaved into the edges.

And lastly, I'll share with you my "puppy love" vignette. For this vignette I have used a pair of reproduction Staffordshire white spaniels, a trade card, a small antique Stafforshire child sized Spaniel, some little bone china beagles, a basset hound and a Yorkie. The doily is one my grandma made years ago, I showed one with blue flowers in my last post.

And that my friends, is it for vignettes for today! If you like what you saw with these Valentine vignettes and want to see more then check out these past posts at this link, and this one.

  14. My favourite parts of your vignettes are the vintage letters, postcards and Valentines. Letter-writing has become a lost art, thanks to today's technology.
