Vignettes of Autumn

Hello everyone! As usual I have been too busy to blog but the other day I did get on and was so inspired by all of your beautiful Fall posts that I decided I must get one going. I wanted to show you some of my latest finds so decided to combine it with this Autumn post.

My Great Auntie, who is 90, had an auction and before the day I was able to pick out a few things. I picked this kerosene lamp because I liked the base, I think it is a milk glass base. The pink, orange, purple and green painted on it are Autumn colors  so I decided to use it as the inspiration piece for this post.

I brought out my grandmother's hand stitched quilt of brown and pink, and bought a mum and some pumpkins for the staging.

For this vignette I added a hand embroidered tablecloth, an enameled amber glass tumbler, an amber pressed glass Japanese fan shaped dish for the maple cookies, a tussie mussie,

this  hand colored brown transferware tile that is a recent find

and this velvet pillow with thistle blooms to match the other purples in this Autumn post. This piece used to be a piano scarf but I cut it down to slip over a pillow.

And now for my tea loving friends, I brought out a cuppa tea for us, using my Johnson Bros. Staffordshire Bouquet pattern. On the chair, covered with the quilt, a lace window panel and a green velvet scarf, is another latest find...

a silver plated water tipper!

Isn't it a beauty with its matching water goblet?! The posy was made by my daughter in her floral design class at school, I thought it would be sweet to use for this post.

Well that is it for now, but before you go please have some tea and a cookie. Thanks so much for visiting and have a blessed Autumn week.

  1. Hello Gina,

Happy Sunday to you. You always seem to find the prettiest vintage pieces. That kerosene lamp is beautiful. I love the pink enamel base. The velvet pillow is also a conversation piece. Very artistic and avant-garde. And the water tipper is stunning.

Enjoy your gorgeous new treasures and thank you for visiting me.

  3. Beautiful, as usual!
    Isn't autumn the best?
I have two of those "milk glass base" lamps. I believe they are from the 1880s if I'm not mistaken.

  7. The mums are lovely and so is the quilt. Whenever I see a kerosene lamp I think of my father because he used to collect them. The silver tipping pot is a wonderful find and we don't see a lot of them. Of course I always enjoy seeing JB china and yours are especially pretty for autumn.Thank you for joining me for Tea Time, Gina, and have a lovely week.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  11. Gina:
You have so many authentic Victorian pieces here. They are all from a very bygone era and wonderful collectibles not seen just anywhere. The oil lamp is incredible and the tile and the pillow cover you made. Like stepping back in time. Together with your transferware cups and saucers you have made a lovely vignette! Thanks for sharing!

  16. What a pretty setting. Love the Aesthetic Movement water pitcher...lovely! The tile, by the way, isn't hand painted...it is hand colored on brown transferware...a favorite period and method of mine. I love your kerosene lamp, and how special to have your grandmother's quilt! Such a pretty vignette! Thanks so much for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

  20. Gina, that tile with the birds is beautiful! I don't think I have ever seen a tile like that. Your pillow cover that used to be a piano shawl is perfect for fall. Did it have the beautiful fringe on it when it lived as a shawl? That is one pretty pillow! Thank you for sharing!
