Latest Finds and a busy life!

Hello everyone! Wow, it has been a month since I've posted anything so I thought I had better post something real quick to let you know I am still here. Did you notice I said real quick? Yea, I know that's funny right?  A lot has been going on around here and I'll fill you in on that at the end of this post.
As you know I work for an Estate sale and garage sale company so I find lots of great stuff, so here are a few of my latest finds.

I am not a chicken collector by any means but when I saw this guy it was love at first sight! Chickens bring back precious memories of both of my grandma's who raised chickens when I was little.
This hand painted bisque hen on nest is Staffordshire and dates back to the late 1800's to early 1900's. (Oh, and the little blown glass egg I got recently on a trip to Kansas City, in an antiques mall. It will join my glass egg collection that I posted about here.)

Anyway this lovely lady will take her place of honor in my fancy china cabinet amongst the elegant green art glass pieces. See her on the middle shelf on the right side?

I also got these pieces,

I got the silver plated basket and cup holder at the same sale I got the chicken at. They shined up very nicely I thought. The ruby flash cup tumbler I bought at the Strawberry Festival (for 75 cents!) this past weekend in Kansas City at the historic Vaile Mansion, hoping that it would fit in my cup holder and it did! Click here to see my Vaile Mansion post about the festival.

I also bought this candle stick beaded lamp shade for 50 cents and will want to get a silver plated candle stick holder to go with it instead of the cheap glass one that I have it with in the first photo.

And now for my favorite, the above silver plated basket tops it all, just look at those feet! And the filligree lacy looking trim!

So beautiful, but what to do with it? I think I will take out the vintage wax fruit from the cut glass banana dish...

and put those in the basket and leave just the bananas in the banana dish. Maybe I will use it as a centerpiece on the dining room table.

And the last thing is this charming little bird house that I got for a dollar. I will add a dowel rod, repaint it and hang it in a tree for my sweet little feathered friends!

My last couple of months have been filled with Prom...

track meets...

 a graduation party...

and oh my goodness I almost forgot to show you the beautiful punch bowl that I got at one of our sales for $18, I bought it just in time for the party!

And then there was Graduation of course, no photo to show for that though. :) A son going off to college in a couple of months.

After 10 years at the same job, I have quit. I am taking a big leap of faith and trusting that everything will work out with only working the estate sale job that I have.

And lastly, we had to say goodbye to our precious little Yorkie, that we had for 9 years, back in March. I have not been able to post about it before now because it has been so very painful, and still at this very moment tears are running down my cheeks just telling you about it so I am not going to go into detail about it.

We all loved her so very much and miss her sweet presence in our home and in our lives.

Thanks so much for visiting.

  3. Hi Gina,
You found some wonderful treasures; especially the punch bowl set! Congrats to your son going off to college! I sent two off-Island to college and university and it was exciting but painful at the same time. Thankfully one guy remained here on the Island and attended college here.
Sorry about your pup! Anyone who's had a fur baby knows how painful that can be. Thank you for joining me for tea today and I'm so glad you enjoyed my post.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  9. I am sorry to hear about your sweet Yorkie, precious little thing.

Handsome couple in the prom photo, nice looking young man.
I know you have been very busy. Great job Mom on everything you do.

I want that punch bowl. What a find! I love going to sales and just got back from a place near Fredericksburg Va. "Deep Creek Vintage" they have some neat things and it's in an old Manor House which makes it more fun to shop there.
My stepson works in the same line of work and enjoys it so much. Sounds like something I would love to do. Good luck on your new job and sounds like you are having a great time with it. Me, I would probably spend more money than I would make, I tend to want everything I see.

  13. Hi, Gina. I certainly hope one of the perks of your estate sale job is getting first choice of the pretties. You could end up spending the bulk of your paycheck, though! Loved seeing the photos of your family but so sorry to hear you lost your furry baby.

  17. Gosh what great finds. I'm not a chicken lover either but I've always wanted a staffordshire chicken dish -- and for a price like what you got yours! Love the silver!

As to lattice crust, they are really easy if you have the roller thing that makes the lines on the pastry. Then you just put it on! And a cherry pie calls for a lattice crust doesn't it?

  20. Hello. I want to say I am sorry about the loss of your little doggie. It is hard to lose a special animal when they have been a part of the family for so long. I hope with time your sorrow will lessen. You have shared some nice finds with us. I enjoy seeing all the things you add to your Victorian home. They are all so special. Your life has been busy with all the things in life that keep families going. I will say a prayer that all goes well with your job decision. Take care.

  21. Hello Gina,

I love your new finds. There are perfect for your home. I love to see all your Victorian decor. Congrats to your son. You must be very proud. Leaving a long term employment can be very scary but I am certain things will be ok.

I am sorry to hear about your baby's passing. I can truly relate with your pain. I lost my Niki last August after 10 years with us and we miss him to pieces. He was the life of our home. My husband could not bear the emptiness in our home so he adopted Max a few months ago. He has brought lots of happiness to our hearts again although Niki will never be replaced.

I pray that you find a bit of comfort knowing that she is in a better place.

    Janet
