Johnson Bros. Liberty Blue for the 4th

Hi everyone! With all the busyness slowing down a bit I thought I would do a little decorating and a table setting for Independence Day.

Last year I started thinking ahead and decided I needed to get some blue plates for a red, white and blue table setting. I spotted the Liberty Blue pattern by Johnson Brothers and decided that it would be perfect.

Through out the year I bought 6 of the dinner plates that have Independence Hall pictured on them and I told myself that I would stop there with just the plates.
Well when I saw two little berry bowls at one of our sales I just couldn't pass them up.
After all they had Betsy Ross and the flag on them!

And then yesterday at a flea market I came across these wonderful salad plates and knew they would look perfect for my setting too! These are actually made for Avon back in 1976 for the Bicentennial year. One plate features Independence Hall, the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the other plate features the Liberty Bell, the symbol of Liberty and Freedom for all Americans.

At sales this past year I found this adorable postcard and the little drum ornaments
that I knew would be perfect for my July 4th table also.

I thought the children on the card were so sweet looking in their patriotic clothing,
and holding a sailboat, flags and a rifle for the celebration. I like all the shiny little gold stars in the background of the card too.

Outside I hung a tin multi holiday wreath on the door, a recent sale find,
and added a few flags since it does not represent the July 4th holiday on the wreath. The flags kind of give the inside space of the wreath a heart shape.

And I dressed up the flower pots and front porch with a few flags and a big flag bunting

and smaller buntings hanging under the windows on the house

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I'll gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

"God Bless the USA"  Steve Greenwood

I don't know about you but every time I hear that song it brings me to tears. Thank God that the flag still stands for freedom! From my house to yours, may you have a glorious Fourth!

  6. I'm loving it all. What fun to continue finding a few special dishes for your collection too. That wreath is gorgeous. I wasn't going to decorate my house for the 4th because we'd be at the lake, but I couldn't help myself. I'll have to share a few pics of my patriotic decor on the blog. Happy soon-to-be July!!

  7. It is so nice to meet you! I followed you from Have a Cup with Mrs. Olson. I have to tell you that at Jann's blogging party I told them how much I love blue and white transfer ware. I had a huge set of the same one that you have. I used very day and just loved it. One day my son who was 15 at the time said that if he could have anything of mine it would be this set. So I packed it up to save for him when he married some day. The day came and I gave it to him and his new bride. I guess his taste changed and the whole box was donated to help those less fortunate the us. When he told me later he thought that I didn't want it any more. I was sick, needless to say. I did have one plate though that I had set a side. I laugh about it now but I really hope that some one is enjoying something that I really enjoyed so much. Jo

  8. Those dishes really are perfect for an Independence Day table! Love the postcard and drums too. I used to put small buntings on all my windows but age has set in and I don't do it anymore. Love the look. I do have my huge flag bunting hanging from the opening of the porch and a God Bless America tin I found at a garage sale.

  12. I will try again as I had to delete my first comment because I made a mistake with a sentence.

I want to say I love your place settings especially that Betsy Ross flag plate.
The wreath on your door looks to be a rare find, unique and it's perfect with the flags.
I never thought of putting buntings under my windows, I hope the stores have a few I can purchase tomorrow for mine as I like the way yours looks. Maybe the Christmas tree shop has some here.
The greenery in your pots on the porch looks so pretty, especially the creeping Jenny as I believe it's called. Mine does not look as well.
    Happy Independence Day!
