Bookcase Surprises!

I got a little bored with my bookcase and added a few little vignettes to bring it to life a bit.

I added my miniature domed Queen Victoria bust on the middle shelf next to my Victorian furniture books and atop of some lace, a daily handbook and a Queen Victoria book.

And of course, what's a bookcase without Mark Twain? Especially if you live in Missouri right? He sits on top of an Adventures of Huckleberry Finn book box.

Would you like to take a peek at some of the books that I have?

The Godey's Lady's Book below is the second oldest book I have, it is dated 1868.  Sorry about the blurry photo.

Here are more old books and another book box, Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Let's take some of these books over to the Library table so you can get closer look. On the table I have a photo album on a stand and a photo box. Below you can see just a tad bit of another photo album on top of my Victorian Scrap book (red).

In the photo above, you can barely see this wall pocket/hanging magazine rack that houses a vintage fan, and a few Gleason's Monthly Companions, dated 1876.

And now for some books. Below is my oldest book dating back to 1856. It belonged to my 3rd Great Grandmother and as you can tell it was definitely used.

And inside is the family record that she wrote. I just love this small glimpse of her penmanship.

A few late 1800's, early 1900's books with pretty covers.

And there's this one that someone replaced the spine with this purple material, it too was used a lot.

It has beautiful color illustrations throughout and the book is dated 1889.

And two of my favorites, Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. 1908 and 1913.

And in the below cabinet section of the bookcase I keep these books from my childhood. The Family Circus! I just adore them and always have! This is only a very few of what's down there though.

Livy dog wants to show you her favorite's too.

My favorite bookmark that reads

"A room without books is as a body without a soul."

  3. Hi Gina,
I LOVE books and have always wanted a nice library but we just don't have the room for one. So we have our books stored in three different rooms. Loved looking at your doll house again. It's so charming. I discontinued my HOME party in January because I was having computer issues. I also found hosting two linky parties too much to handle so I decided to only do my tea party. Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely day.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  4. Gina, you have the best collections and I know I've told you that before. I absolutely love all your books. When I buy books now I really just buy them for the beautiful covers (old books) but I certainly don't own any as nice or as beautiful as yours. I'm drooling over Anne of Green Gables and the handwriting years ago was so elegant. My grandmother's handwriting looked like that too. I remember but don't have any samples of it now. How sad...Have a wonderful Mother's Day..Judy

The stairs are perfect and that wallpaper is charming. Thank you for sharing. I am off to check out the link parties. ;-)
    Have a Happy Mother's Day!

  8. Books can be such comfort, imagine having this old book. I see a lot of Anne of Green Gables books as I live in Anne's Land, still a classic and a wonderful inspirational book. I love what you have done with the renovations

  13. Dear Gina...

Love your dollhouse stairs. Please tell me how you did them! Did you buy wood and glue them or what?

Gina I wanted to tell you how much your kind words meant to me on the death of my beloved kitty, Honey Cat. It' s a week today and I'm still terribly sad. I miss her soooo much. But your comment was very comforting. Susan

It looks so elegant in your pics and your taste is so much like mine. Your dollhouse is so sweet. I wouldn't be coordinated enough to work with such tiny things. Thank you for visiting me.
